Product Description
3M 08883 Rubberized Undercoating Spray is a premium aerosol undercoating that gives corrosion protection and sound deadening with a good spray pattern and high coverage. It goes on bare or primed metal and dries to a black, medium to coarse textured finish that resists chipping, abrasion, exterior rusting and weathering, and it builds up in one coat with no dripping, running or sagging.
Use it on the undercarriage of cars, trucks, vans and recreational vehicles, and in wheel wells, quarter panels and other inside body panels, the inside of fenders, door skins, the underside of the hood and trunk lid, trunks and floor pans. The asphalt and synthetic polymer coating seals out grit, grime and moisture and helps deaden road noise. In 3M's salt fog evaluation it showed no corrosion after 1,500 hours. It is tack free in about 15 minutes at 75°F and a can covers about 16 sq. ft. per coat.
Tips from users: clean the area well and remove trim or sound insulation first, spray light coats and let each one dry before the next, and plan on several cans for full door shells, wheel wells and floors. The solvent smell is strong at first and fades as it cures, so ventilate trunks and interiors well. Keep it off exhaust systems and anything over 200°F. It has no UV screeners, so surfaces in direct sunlight may fade, and paint applied over it may discolor.
