Product Description
Unasco Gold Maximum Density Thread Seal Tape is a premium, unstretched PTFE thread seal tape for critical joints where reliability matters most. Because the tape is not stretched during manufacture, it keeps a high density of about 1.5 g/cm³ and extra thickness, so it fills thread roots and seals with fewer wraps than standard-density tape. Unasco developed it for the gas industry and recommends it for chemical applications, and the gold color makes sealed joints easy to identify.
The tape is 99% PTFE, one of the most chemically inert materials available, so it is compatible with a broad range of liquids, gases and pipe materials across a service temperature range of -450°F to 500°F. It also acts as a thread lubricant and anti-seize, helps prevent electrolytic corrosion of threads, does not harden or crack on the joint, needs no curing time, and has an indefinite shelf life.

Chemical Compatibility
Compatible with alcohols, aliphatic and aromatic solvents, chlorinated solvents, dilute acids and caustics, compressed air, cutting oils, diesel fuel, ethylene glycol, gasohol, heating oils, hydraulic fluids, hydrogen, inert gases, jet fuel, kerosene, ketones, liquid petroleum gas, mineral oils, natural gas, nitrogen, petroleum solvents, steam, vegetable oils and water. Check Unasco's precautions before use with concentrated acids or caustics. Do not use with alkali metals (sodium, potassium, lithium), metal hydrides, aluminum chloride, 80% sodium or potassium hydroxide, certain amines and imines, or 70% nitric acid near the service temperature limit.
Instructions
- Clean the male and female threads thoroughly.
- Choose a tape width suited to the fitting size.
- Wrap the tape around the male thread in the direction of the thread (the direction of nut rotation), keeping it under tension so it molds into the thread roots.
- Do not let the tape overlap the end of the fitting.
- Apply enough wraps for the thread: good threads seal with as little as 1-1/2 wraps and 3 wraps seal most threads; worn or damaged threads, parallel threads and fittings subject to vibration may need more.
- Assemble the joint. No curing time is needed.
- Replace the clip on the spool after use.
