Gym Floor Marking Tape

Clean-Removing Vinyl & Gaffers Tapes for Court Lines

FindTape's gym floor marking tapes lay down bright, durable court lines and remove cleanly without leaving adhesive residue behind. We recommend colored vinyl tapes like JVCC V-36 and V-36P for most gym floors, since paper tape tears too easily underfoot, or low-adhesion gaffers tape for a matte look. On a fully cured floor they shouldn't lift much finish or wax, if any, but avoid taping freshly waxed or refinished floors.

FindTape's gym floor marking tapes are built for laying down temporary court lines, boundaries, and layouts on gymnasium floors. They hold up to foot traffic and game play, then come up cleanly without leaving sticky adhesive residue behind. Schools, rec centers, YMCAs, churches, and community centers use them to mark volleyball, pickleball, and basketball courts, set up practice drills and events, or lay out lines for gym class.

For most gym floors we recommend a colored vinyl tape. Paper tape is much more likely to tear when it gets scuffed by shoes or when you try to pull it up, so vinyl is the better choice in most cases. JVCC V-36 Colored Vinyl Tape is a great all-around option in a wide range of colors, and JVCC V-36P Premium Colored Vinyl Tape is the pick when you want the lines to stay down a little longer. If you would rather have a matte, non-reflective look, a low-adhesion gaffers tape such as Scapa 125 is another one to look at. To put down long, straight lines quickly, pair your tape with the JVCC Aisle/Lane Marking Tape Dispenser.

One important note: on a fully cured floor, these tapes shouldn't pull up much floor finish or wax, if any. Freshly waxed or refinished floors are a different story, since a new finish is still soft and can lift with the tape. Hold off on taping until the finish has fully cured, and always test a small, out-of-the-way spot first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will gym floor tape damage my floor finish?
On a fully cured floor, vinyl and low-adhesion gaffers tapes shouldn't lift much finish or wax, if any. The risk comes with freshly waxed or refinished floors, so wait until the finish has fully cured and follow the finish manufacturer's guidance before applying any tape.

Why vinyl instead of paper tape?
Paper tape tears easily under shoes and often rips into small pieces when you try to remove it. Vinyl tape stretches and holds together, so it lasts longer during play and comes up in one piece.

Which tape should I choose?
Choose JVCC V-36 for everyday court lines, JVCC V-36P when you need the lines to stay down longer, and Scapa 125 low-adhesion gaffers tape when you want a matte finish that won't reflect gym lighting.

How long can I leave the tape down?
These tapes are made for temporary marking. The longer tape stays down, especially in a warm gym, the harder it can be to remove, so plan to pull it up when your event or season ends.

What's the best way to remove it?
Peel the tape back slowly at a low angle, close to the floor, rather than pulling it straight up. If any adhesive is left behind, test an adhesive remover on a small spot first to make sure it's safe for your floor finish.

Do you work with schools?
Yes. FindTape is based in Hamilton, New Jersey, and we work with schools, athletic departments, and facilities teams across the country. Contact us about school purchase orders and tax-exempt orders.
