Product Description

Swingline S.F. 39 heavy duty staples are the bulk workhorse of the heavy duty line, packed 5,000 to a box for offices, mailrooms, and copy centers that go through volume. Sharp chisel points pierce cleanly through stacks up to 90 sheets of 20 lb. paper, and a heavier steel gauge than standard desktop staples resists buckling under load. All three leg lengths share a 1/2" crown and come collated 100 staples per strip.

At five times the count of a 1,000-piece box, the cost per staple drops meaningfully. This is the series to stock when a shared stapler runs all day and reloading is a recurring task rather than an occasional one.

A leg length that is too short for the stack is the most common cause of misfeeds and legs that fold over instead of clinching flat. When a stack falls between two ranges, step up to the longer leg. Standard desktop staples will not feed correctly in a heavy duty magazine.

S.F. 39 or S.F. 13 Premium?

Both series fit the same heavy duty staplers and share the same 1/2" crown, so either will work in your machine. The two series split cleanly by stack thickness and box size.

  • S.F. 39 (793XX), on this page: 5,000 per box at a lower cost per staple, offered in 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" legs. The better pick for high-volume stapling at or below 90 sheets.
  • S.F. 13 Premium (353XX): Precision chisel point, 1,000 per box, offered in 1/2", 3/4", and 15/16" legs. The series to use for stacks above 90 sheets, up to full 210-sheet capacity.

Compatible Staplers

Fits Swingline heavy duty manual staplers including the 39002, 39005, and 390 series, and most other high-capacity heavy duty staplers that accept a 1/2" crown staple. Not compatible with standard desktop staplers, mini staplers, or cartridge-fed electric staplers.

Instructions

Selecting the Right Leg Length

  1. Square the stack you intend to fasten and count or estimate the sheet total.
  2. Match the total to the range printed on your stapler base: 1/4 in. for 2 to 25 sheets, 3/8 in. for 25 to 60 sheets, and 1/2 in. for 40 to 90 sheets.
  3. When a stack falls between two ranges, step up to the longer leg. A leg that is slightly long will still clinch, while one that is too short will fold over.
  4. For stacks above 90 sheets, switch to the S.F. 13 Premium series, which offers 3/4 in. and 15/16 in. leg lengths.

Loading a Strip

  1. Push the follow block at the rear of the stapler inward, lift it slightly, and slide it out of the magazine.
  2. Drop a full strip of 100 staples into the channel with the legs pointing down.
  3. Slide the follow block back in until it seats and holds tension against the strip.
  4. Do not mix leg lengths in the same magazine. Run the loaded strip out or remove it before changing sizes.

If Staples Are Not Clinching Flat

  1. Confirm the leg length matches the stack thickness, and step up one size if the legs are folding over rather than curling under.
  2. Confirm the staples are heavy duty with a 1/2 in. crown. Standard desktop staples will misfeed in a heavy duty magazine.
  3. Clear any bent or partial staples from the channel before reloading.
  4. Press the handle through one full, complete stroke rather than a partial press.

Storage

  1. Keep boxes closed and dry. Moisture promotes surface rust on the galvanized coating and can cause strips to separate.
  2. Store strips flat so the collating adhesive is not stressed.

Made in the USA
hot melt rubber (synthetic)
Offers the widest range of application flexibility available. Exhibits excellent processing performance whether manually or automatically applied. Has superior tensile strength, adhesion properties and holding force which ensures consistent, reliable seals. Hot melt adhesive will bond faster to a surface which is referred to as quick-grab or quick-stick. It typically has higher tack (will feel stickier to the touch), but is also softer. It has lower heat resistance, shear resistance, and sometimes UV resistance than an acrylic adhesive. NOTE: it is called hot melt because the adhesive is applied hot by the manufacturer and then hardens as it cools (you do not need to apply heat to the tape yourself).
natural rubber
Properties are similar to that of hot melt rubber, but natural rubber often holds where other adhesives won't (recycled fibers, dust, cold, heat and heavy loads). It provides good overall adhesion and moisture resistance.
acrylic
Offer excellent performance, especially for applications in temperatures less than 40°F and greater then 120°F. It provides excellent clarity, has high shear strength, is usually more permanent/durable even when exposed to moisture, and it ages well over extended periods in fluorescent and sunlight. Since it remains clear for the life of the application and does not yellow over time it is ideal for applications such as sealing white cartons. While it has good initial adhesion it does take 24-48 hours to cure and to achieve its maximum bond strength (has gradual adhesion buildup). Another difference between hot melt rubber and acrylic adhesive is if you fold tape over making the two adhesive sides touch the acrylic adhesive will remain attached to the carrier (e.g. paper, film) while a hot melt adhesive will stick to itself and pull off of the carrier. It is the best choice for clarity, UV resistance and aging characteristics.
silicone
Is great for extreme temperature applications since silicone adhesive can work in continuous operating temperatures from -100°F to 500°F. They also exhibit good chemical resistance, retain electrical properties, and remove cleanly with little or no residue.
zinc oxide
Zinc oxide based adhesive formula is a skin-friendly adhesive which is commonly used on sports medicine tapes.
Thickness, AKA caliper or gauge, refers to the distance from one surface of a tape backing, or adhesive, to the other.
1 mil = 1/1000 of an inch
Examples: 1/16 inch = 62.5 mils; 1/32 inch = 31.25 mils
The cut level indicates how many grams of cutting load a glove can withstand from a sharp blade before being penetrated.
Lower gauge gloves are heavier - have thicker construction, fewer stiches knitted per inch and offer less dexterity.
Higher gauge gloves are lighter - have thinner/finer construction, more stitches knitted per inch and offer more dexterity.
Gloves offered typically runs from 7 to 18 (12 and 13 are in the middle of the scale).
